Cloister of Santa Chiara

In the historic center of Naples stands the ancient Monumental Complex of Santa Chiara, whose construction began in 1310 under the direction of Roberto d’Angiò and Queen Sancia of Majorca. The project created a true Franciscan citadel, divided into two convents: one for the Poor Clares and one for the Franciscan friars.

The church still preserves its original Gothic layout, featuring a linear façade adorned with a finely crafted rose window of great historical and artistic value.

Monday to Saturday: 9:30 – 17:00

Royal Palace of Naples

The Royal Palace of Naples was built starting in the 1600s and reached its final form in 1858. Over the centuries, it served as the residence of Spanish and Austrian viceroys until 1734, of the Bourbon dynasty from 1734 to 1860 (interrupted by the French Decade between 1806 and 1815), and after the unification of Italy in 1861, of the House of Savoy.

In 1919, Victor Emmanuel III transferred it to the State. Today, the palace is primarily a museum, open for visits to the Royal Apartments, and also houses the National Library.

Catacombs of San Gennaro

Beneath Naples lies a millennia-old history closely linked to the cult of the city’s patron saint, San Gennaro. The Catacombs offer a fascinating journey through the relationship between the city and its religious traditions, preserving centuries of testimony.

Naples is a striking example of a “layered” city: between ancient Greek Neapolis and the contemporary city, the underground reveals not just centuries of history but entire superimposed levels.

Opening Hours
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 – 17:00
(Last entry at 17:00 – closed on Wednesdays)
Via Capodimonte, 13
